WHY THE BIBLE? WHY THE GOD OF THE BIBLE?
Most religions can be traced back to one founder. Some of these founders claimed that they have been given a revelation by their god, gods, or by an angel. However, about forty writers (mostly prophets who came from a variety of professional backgrounds, not just one prophet or messenger) penned the Bible. These prophets, and other writers, told much about the God of the Bible, and of future events that He would bring to pass. Although written separately and over such a great period of time (about a fifteen hundred years), the books of Bible present a balanced, unified work – it all fits together – as written by one author. |

A large collection of ancient scrolls was discovered near the Dead Sea which contained ancient books of the Bible and non-Biblical books. Through the process of carbon dating, it has been discovered that these scrolls were written long before the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. Textually, these books are the same as those which are in the Bible today. Thus, the Dead Sea Scrolls verify the authenticity of those Bible books which were written before the church age.
Some Bible prophecies:
Israel prophesied to be in Egyptian bondage for 400 years with the promise to return afterward.
Gen.15:13,14 (Prophesied approximately 2,000 years before the birth of Jesus of Nazareth) And He (the LORD) said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
Israel prophesied to be driven into all the nations with the promise to return afterward.
Deut. 30:1 (prophesied, approximately 2,000 years before the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, by Moses even before Israel entered into the promised land) And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath driven thee,
30:2 And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul;
30:3 That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee.
Israel prophesied to be in Babylon bondage for 70 years with the promise to return afterward.
Jer.25:11 (written by the prophet Jeremiah approximately 585 - 627 years before the birth of Jesus of Nazareth) And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
Jer.25:12 And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.
Jer.29:10 For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.
Israel prophesied to become a nation once again.
Following the revolt against the Roman rule, Israel was also removed from the land and dispersed by the Romans. One of the most unbelievable of fulfilled ancient prophecies in the Bible is that Israel would become a nation once again after almost two thousand years:
Isaiah 66:8,9 (written by the prophet Isaiah approximately 680 – 740 years before the birth of Jesus of Nazareth) “Who has heard such a thing? who has seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children. Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? says the LORD: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb? says your God.” This prophecy was fulfilled on May 14, 1948.
A Prophet like Moses.
Deut. 18:15 (written by the Moses approximately 1440 years before the birth of Jesus of Nazareth) The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken: quoted : Acts 3:22,23 , Acts 7:37
Acts 7:35 This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush.
7:36 He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.
7:37 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear. Jesus came to deliver us out of the land of sin by many wonders and signs.
