Tithe:

Heb. 7:5 And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office

of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people

according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come

out of the loins of Abraham:

Num. 18:20 And the LORD spake unto Aaron, Thou shalt have no inheritance in their land, neither shalt thou have any part among them: I am thy part and thine inheritance among the children of Israel.  18:21 And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel

for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.

(EVEN THE LEVITES HAD TO TITHE:)

Num. 18:26 Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the LORD, even a tenth part of the tithe.

Pr. 3:9 Honor the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all

thine increase:

3:10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst

out with new wine.

Ez.44:30 And the first of all the firstfruits of all things, and every oblation of all, of every sort of your oblations, shall be the priest's: ye shall also give unto the priest the first of your dough, that he may cause the blessing to rest in thine house.

Neh. 10:38 And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes unto the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure house.  10:39 For the children of Israel and the children of Levi shall bring the offering of the corn, of the new wine, and the oil, unto the chambers, where are the vessels of the sanctuary, and the priests that minister, and the porters, and the singers: and we will not forsake the house of our God.

Deut. 12:5 But unto the place which the LORD your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there, even unto his habitation shall ye seek, and thither thou shalt come:

12:6 And thither ye shall bring your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and heave offerings of your hand, and your vows, and your freewill offerings, and the firstlings of your herds and of your flocks: (the tithe was only a part of what you gave back to the LORD!)

12:7 And there ye shall eat before the LORD your God, and ye shall rejoice in all that ye put your hand unto, ye and your households, wherein the LORD thy God hath blessed thee.

12:11 Then there shall be a place which the LORD your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there; thither shall ye bring all that I command you; your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which ye vow unto the LORD:

12:12 And ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God, ye, and your sons, and your daughters, and your menservants, and your maidservants, and the Levite that is within your gates; forasmuch as he hath no part nor inheritance with you.

12:19 Take heed to thyself that thou forsake not the Levite as long as thou livest upon the earth.

Deut. 26:12 When thou hast made an end of tithing all the tithes of thine increase the third year, which is the year of tithing, and hast given it unto the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled;

26:13 Then thou shalt say before the LORD thy God, I have brought away the hallowed things out of mine house, and also have given them unto the Levite, and unto the stranger, to the fatherless, and

to the widow, according to all thy commandments which thou hast commanded me: I have not transgressed thy commandments, neither have I forgotten them.

Paul makes NO mention of tithes nor tithing except in Hebrews chapter 7 with regard to the priests and Levites in order to show that Jesus’ priesthood was not of the Law.  God does still bless for giving to His work, and many Christians have proven this [proven His provision] when they have begun to tithe and give offerings.  However, we are not under the Law with regard to tithing & giving!  Interestingly, Paul standing before Felix the Governor to defend himself said: Acts 24:17 “Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.”   No mention of tithes…

Not Specifically Tithing:

1 Tim 6:17  Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

18  That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

19  Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

Doesn’t say to give it all to a certain ministry.

Pr. 19:17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that

which he hath given will he pay him again.  ( God usually repays not just the amount we give, but rather, with interest!

Pr. 22:7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

Pr. 22:9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

GOD WITHHOLDING BLESSINGS:

Hag. 1:1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the

first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the

prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah,

and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,

1:2 Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The

time is not come, the time that the LORD’s house should be built.

1:3 Then came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,

1:4 Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this

house lie waste?

1:5 Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.

1:6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not

enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you,

but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to

put it into a bag with holes.

1:7 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.

1:8 Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I

will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD.

1:9 Ye looked for much, and, lo it came to little; and when ye brought

it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts.

Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his

own house.

1:10 Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is

stayed from her fruit.

1:11 And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains,

and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and

upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and

upon cattle, and upon all the labor of the hands.

1:12 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of

Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people,

obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai

the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people

did fear before the LORD.

1:13 Then spake Haggai the LORD’s messenger in the LORD’s

message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the LORD.

1:14 And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of

Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of

Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the

people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD of

hosts, their God,

1:15 In the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year

of Darius the king.

Mal.3:7 Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?

3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

3:9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.

3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

3:11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.

3:12 And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.

3:13 Your words have been stout against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, What have we spoken so much against thee?

3:14 Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?

3:15 And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.

3:16 Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.

3:17 And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.

3:18 Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

II Cor. 9 refers to giving to the needy – Not to tithing!

WHAT DID JESUS SAY?

Mt.23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Lk.11:42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Many people feel that since Jesus didn’t teach specifically about tithing that it no longer applies.  Tithing was expected – it was the norm, therefore, no further teaching should be necessary.  What He did say should suffice, “these ought ye to have done.

Tithing will not get you into heaven, nor will not tithing keep you from getting into heaven.  Again, God does still bless for giving to His work, and many Christians have proven this [proven His provision] when they have begun to tithe and give offerings.
